ABOUT ME
2nd generation signpainter. Dad. Chaotic good.
I’m just a friendly guy, with 3 little kids, obsessed with shop front aesthetics and trying his best to fight the weather.
I have been hand painting lettering and commercial graphics in Glasgow for a number of years now. After graduating from Glasgow School of Art in 2011, I worked/practiced at ‘doing art’ in art spaces, until - with mouths to be fed - I decided to put the art skills to commercial use.
Remembering the sweet smells of turpentine and oil paint, I followed in the footsteps of my old, (dearly departed) signwriter Da, Brian.
Not much remains of his output, but between the late 70s and mid 90s, BJ Sloan smashed out some truly epic signworks. While he passed away a while ago, I like to think that I inherited his painterly flair - aswell as his painterly smells and baldness haha.
Here’s a classic piece of BJ Sloan signpainting, featuring all the hits: trompe l’oeil, unique Tuscan lettering, colour blends, illustrative flourishes and extreme detailing.
