Surface gilding

For super shiny golden finishes (on any surface).

This process is similar to sign painting, where the paint is substituted for a special glue (called size).

This glue is used like paint, to make lettering, graphics, whatever you desire.

Once the glue has dried enough that it isn’t sticky, but is ‘squeeky’ sounding when rubbed, then the gold leaf can be transferred onto the glue painted design.

Afterwards the gold leaf is polished (burnishing) to achieve a luxurious golden glow and shimmer.

This process is a bit more involved with multiple steps requiring intense care and attention to detail.

The glass is cleaned vigorously 3 times until free from invisible contaminants.

A water-gelatin mix is then poured over the surface of the glass to form a continuous film of flowing water (no drips!).

Then, using a fine animal hair gilder’s tip, sheets of gold leaf are picked up using the moisture and grease from human skin, to carefully place the gold onto the flowing film of water-gelatin. This is repeated to cover the entire area of your design, and then backed up again with a second layer of gold.

Then you can paint the design on the back of the gold, to stick it down permanently and to reveal the profile of your design.

After cleaning off the excess gold leaf, you are left with a perfect mirror finish design, that will last donkeys long.
